The digitization has just claimed another casualty, and some may consider it a surprising one. Penthouse Magazine is throwing in the towel on its print edition after more than a half a century on the newsstand. The publication will continue in a digital format only.

Penthouse was founded in 1965  and in its heyday, Penthouse’s circulation routinely surpassed 5 million copies a month. But the days of finding random pages of gentlemen’s magazines in park bushes are almost over.

Adult magazines have long struggled with adapting to the digital era. They were among the first media outlets to see their audiences slip away as wide varieties of adult content became available online.

Changing the way people use media

Watching TV on tablets, reading on e-readers, using apps to leaf through magazines … the digitization megatrend is changing the way people use media. Digital transformation has become the ultimate challenge in change management because it impacts not only industry structures and strategic positioning but all levels of an organization.
